How to hire your tools

Hiring your tools out doesn't need to be stressful if you follow a few simple steps to make sure you are covered!

So you signed up on the site,

Listed the tools you want to hire, and now you have your first rental request just come in - What now?

Firstly you’ll need to accept the hire and communicate with the hirer in advance. It may be an idea to ask about their project to ensure the hire is suitable for their task? Also find out if they are familiar with the type of tool requested and if they need any instruction when they pick up.

On the day the hire is due, get some photos of the item you are hiring out showing its current condition. Also get a photo of the hirer taking the item. Should anything happen these will be needed to make a claim. Make sure you have agreed with the hirer the return time and are comfortable they know the key safety features of using the item. After that you’re good to go!

When you receive your item back should there be any damage at all make sure you take some pictures at that point and discuss with the hirer how the damage happened and try to resolve compensation at that point. Remember tools do get marked in normal use and you shouldn't try and charge the hirer for reasonable marks.

If you should receive your time back damaged and can't resolve it with the hirer, open a claim at makerswap@makerswap.co we will be more than happy to help you resolve your issue!

Rest assured that almost all tool hire that occurs goes off without a hitch. So far we have never had a claim raised and both parties have been happy with the process but it's always good to know we’re here if you need us.
